McKenzie Method®

This treatment approach was developed in 1981 by Robin McKenzie, a physical therapist from New Zealand. It addresses spinal pain and dysfunction. The choice of exercise in the McKenzie method is based on direction (flexion, extension or lateral shift of the spine). The aims of therapy are centralization of symptoms (movement toward the midline of the body) and pain reduction or elimination. Instruction in specific regular home exercise and self-care is considered to be essential to successful outcomes.
