What should I expect on my first visit and during subsequent treatments?

Healthcare professionals at Integrative Therapies are interested in providing you with an individualized treatment program that meets with your specific needs and interests. Therefore, your practitioner will review your intake forms and conduct an extensive interview before providing treatment. Given the holistic approach of Oriental medicine, many factors may be taken into account, including past and present health problems and environmental, emotional, dietary and lifestyle components. Your acupuncturist will also feel your pulse and ask to look at your tongue. These assessments provide further clues as to the cause and progression of your health concern within the Chinese medical framework. Based on this evaluation, the practitioner determines where the energy blockages are in your system and what points to stimulate in order to correct the imbalance.

Once the proper acupuncture points have been mapped out, needles are inserted, typically with the body in the reclining position. Needles are usually left in for 20 to 40 minutes with your acupuncturist checking on you every 10 to 15 minutes. People usually use this time to relax.  Many people describe feeling a sense of calm and well-being; others may experience a rush of physical or emotional sensations. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask your treating professional.

An initial acupuncture assessment and treatment at Integrative Therapies usually takes between 80 and 90 minutes, with follow-up sessions lasting between 45 and 55 minutes.
